Brent has worked for about 30 years on this massive book, which is finally available via the publisher. The official release date is March, but you can order it early.
I will be reviewing it for the Rogue Cinema website and posting the link here.
In short, it is outstanding, a massive volume containing all manner of information. The price is steep, it is a huge book, but absolutely worth every penny, I assure you.
Any fan of silent comedy really needs this book.
Best wishes to all for health, happiness, and success in 2010 _________________ James L. Neibaur |

Thank you for that info, Jim. Apparently Amazon has em for sale already. I will review it for the January issue of Rogue Cinema and post the link here. _________________ James L. Neibaur |

My copy was under the tree, and it exceeds every expectation. Don't be daunted by the price, it's a major event in film scholarship, really several books in one, encompassing utterly everything to do with Sennett, finely detailed, thorough, exceptionally well written too, and full of fantastic stills.
Happy holidays to everyone looking in! |

| Amazon has it for 13% off, I just bought a copy. Despite my screen name, it's not that often that I buy a book with such a hefty price tag, but if it's something written by Brent, JN, Glenn Mitchell or any of the other noted film comedy historians, I'll make an exception because I know it will be worth every penny. |

I came back home from a Christmas trip and a neighbour came rushing out to greet me. He had a package from Amazon- Brent's book. It's fantastic. So detailed, so intelligent, so readable, so comprehensive.
Well done, Brent. |

Thanks everyone (and happy New Year!). I glad that you're enjoying the book! Getting it out has given some finality to me, knowing that I no longer can try to shoehorn additional research information on Sennett that I kept finding (thus delaying the book).
However, to fill the gap for that, I just started a Mack Sennett blog which I'm going to keep periodically updated with some additional info, photos, etc.

Just a note James,
What a fantastic review you wrote regarding Brent Walker's new Mack Sennett book. I've been monitering the book's progress for years; I am so happy for Brent that it is finally published the way he wanted it done. My copy will be here in 9 more days, I can't wait.
I hope everyone on this board finds an outlet to review Brent's book. Wouldn't it be great if this generates a new interest in the main stream? That might usher in more film preservation, more film classes, and more appreciation for the genre'. _________________ Bill Cassara |

| It's a shame that there isn't a place on TV for film scholars like James or Brent, a place where they can plug their book and enlighten younger viewers on classic film comedy. Shows like "Regis and Kelly" or Jay Leno are only interested in booking current movie, tv or music stars, most of which I personally could care less about. It's all about ratings, I guess... |

Just got my copy yesterday. You've really outdone yourself this time, Brent! My only problem with the book was that there is so much interesting and fascinating information, I didn't know where to begin! Seriously, I had to contemplate it for a few minutes. Finally I decided I would start on the Educational talkies. Lots of great photos, too! I don't see how any Sennett fan could be without this book. |

| I received my copy of this amazing book in the mail today. I can't put it down. What others have said is right: it's like several books in one. Worth every penny. I'm jumping around through it like an Easter egg hunt. |

| I do agree. There is a need for a television show for film scholars to promote their fine work as well as to let viewers know about the great movies of the past. |
