Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on June 15, 1884. Who knew after spending over 20 years in Vaudeville he'd become one of the greatest comedians of his era. After all this time, it seems like he's finally getting the respect and recognition that he so truly deserves.

Happy Birthday to one of my all-time favorite comedians!

I enjoyed spending this afternoon with Harry. Working from home has its positives and negatives, with one of the positives being able to make your own schedule. I decided to take the afternoon off (in honor of Harry's birthday) and watch some of his silent and talkie shorts.

One thing I find interesting that hasn't been discussed much is how Mack Sennett claimed Harry to be one of his favorite comedians. Considering Sennett's style of comedy I find that hard to believe. Sure, Harry was a talented comedian, but his style was the complete opposite of what MS produced. I'm just thankful that he was able to break the MS mold and eventually do his own thing later on.

Hooray for Harry! It's very fitting that around the time of Harry's birthday we're all excited about the two new book releases written about him.

I hope Harry is watching from above and is happy that he's finally getting the recognition he deserves many generations later.

That's great Holmes, that you had an afternoon with Harry. I'm now inspired! I think I'll showcase a Harry film this month at the hospital for my monthly Silent Comedy Movie night with the patients.

Interestingly enough, I've had the pleasure of being in contact, through Harry's Facebook page, with Harry's great granddaughter, who is truly appreciative that her great granddad is still being remembered by people, especially in recent years.

Ahhhh this was a sweet posting Tim. I sure do wish we were neighbors so I could veg out and share in a Harry holiday with you. I'm hoping that some day in the not so distant future I'll be able to see one of Harry's films on the big screen with an audience filled with fellow Harry fans.

Someone asked me the other day "...if you could time travel BACK in time and meet anyone you wanted to, who would it be and why?" Clearly that person didn't know me very well. Granted Nikola Tesla would be really high on my list of who I could meet but my Heart is with Harry. I love that little man and what I would give to spend some time with him AND watch him in action both on stage and behind the camera. I wish we had more raw footage of him way back in the early teens but I'm extremely grateful for what little footage we do have of him. Plus, who knows, maybe one of these day/years Langdon's remaining family will open up his hope chest and share with the world all of Harry's goodies.

Anyhoo, it's sweet your thinking of him on his birthday and yikes...128 years!!! Gee Wiz Shocked
